Hello Crafters, here is my latest creation! Colorful paper flowers! Make them for your next party with my Flower Petal Template! Here is a quick list of what you will need to make one large paper flower.

Supplies:

First thing to do is to download my free flower petal template below.  Included in the download are cutting machine files, SVG & DXF; along with printable files PNG & PDF. You will get 4 different flower petal sizes, x-small, small, medium & large.

Large Flower (16in)

  • 5 large petals
  • 5 medium petals
  • 5 small petals
  • x-small not needed

Medium Flower (14in)

  • large petals not need
  • 5 medium petals
  • 5 small petals
  • 5 x-small

Small Flower(12in)

  • large petals not needed
  • medium petals not needed
  • 10 small petals
  • 4/5 x-small petals

In this tutorial, I will show you how to use my Printable PDF files.  They’re to be used as a tracing template and can be used over and over again.  With my SVG cutting files you may like your cutting machine to cut it for you.  However, when it comes to making paper flowers, I prefer to cut them with scissors instead. (Seems faster).

After unzipping the downloaded folder, find the 4 separate PDF files and print them using your home printer. I use an off white cardstock, the thicker the better, the max thickness of what your printer can handle.  Once you print all 4, cut each template petal out.  You will be using these as a tracing guide. Lay one template petal on your color choice of 8.5×11 cardstock, trace and cut each petal. I like to save time, because we all have busy lives, so I without tracing lay the template over 3 sheets of paper and cut around template with my scissors and cut 3 sheets at once. free paper flower templateNext you will have to curl your petal, this gives it the realistic look! I use a Crayola thick marker for my large petals and a smooth pen for my other petals. Curl each tip of the petal. Then you will need to fold the bottom tab where the glue is going to be applied. Do this to all you petals. Now we need to get our base ready. With a 6 inch cake board and floral wire, find the center and poke the wire through each end and tie it on other side. (Refer to pictures below). You can heat up your glue gun and start gluing the outer larger petals first spaced evenly.  (See pictures below).  Do this with each different size petal.

Try out these cute textured leaves!

Fold 8.5×11 paper long ways.

Cut a round tear drop shape.

Fold at a 45 degree angle zig zag.

Then unfold to view textured leaf.

Tips:  Make sure your scissors are sharp. Be cautious when curling your petals; paper may rip. Have tons of glue sticks at hand. You can make 2 small petals / 4 x-small petals, with one 8.5×11 sheet of cardstock.

  1. Thank you for these amazing freebies and tutorials! I have a question – I’m not understanding how to do the floral wire in the cardboard circles. Can you explain the purpose of the wire? I tried zooming in on the pictures but still don’t get it! Lol.

    1. Hi thanks for visiting, I add the floral wire so it will be easy to hang on a party backdrop, or wall. So if I put a nail in my wall I hook the wire over to stay in place. For me I poke a hole in the cardboard with a thumb tack. Two on each side of the cardboard then I string in my wire. On the other side I tie them together, but I leave enough lack on the other side so it will be able to loop over a nail to hang. I hot glue the petals to the side where the wire is tied. Hope that helps

  2. Hi! Thanks so much for the awesome resource! These are just beautiful! I have a question about the download though. When I open the files in my silhouette program, they are not different sizes. The only thing that changes about them is the width a little bit but the overall height is pretty much the same. Is this supposed to be the case? Thanks!

    1. Hi, I work in design space, so I’m not sure why it would do that. When I upload each petal in design space they are all different sizes. I have them sized ready to make. Did you make sure to upload each different petal.

  3. unfortynately these all save as the large size on cricut design space. would you mind telling me the sizes? thanks!

    1. Hello, sorry for the late response, my notifications weren’t coming through. They are all different sizes ready to cut. they may look the same in your upload library but import them all in to the new canvas and you will see they are all different size petals.

  4. I can’t wait to make these flowers. I am trying to make the medium size, so I had a couple questions on that. 1) What size center (circle) would you use for a medium flower? 2) What size center would you use? I’m cutting with a cricut machine so I want to make sure everything is accurate. I’m hoping to use your center that looks like a “sunburst”.

  5. These files download as PDFs for me and I cannot get them do upload in my silhouette. Any tips??

  6. Oh my word I used this free template and it’s amazing! Although now I see that I rolled the flowers wrong lol. Can’t wait to you this as a photo backdrop for my daughter fiesta!!

  7. I wanted to use your free paper flower SVG template to make flowers as a backdrop for a photo booth for my daughter party. Does this fall under the acceptable use.

    1. I’m starting a new ad company in September! Should look much better! ? My ads help me to keep creating free files for my viewers. Thanks for visiting, trying coming back in September for the update!

    1. They automatically download to your computer/device after you click the pink download button. If nothing happens when you click on it, you might be connecting from an app. Open link directly in an internet browser then try the download button again. Let me know if you get it to work.

  8. This is the ONLY website I’ve found where the person actually gives you the direct download without ad’s or trying to sell you something. I can’t wait to decorate my nursery now!!! Thank you. Also, instructions are so simple.

    1. Thanks so much for visiting! The way I think it, if I have it why not share it for other people crafting for themselves as well! Good luck on the nursery. I still have some paper flowers above my daughter’s bed for 2 years now.

  9. These files are going to help me add some color to my home office. Though I haven’t created flowers yet (still toying with the colors I want) I’m so excited. I plan to hand mine with command velcro in case I want to change out colors or rearrange them every so often.

  10. thank you for the prints 🙂 it’s so nice to find a site that shares there talent with the world at no cost 🙂

  11. I was able to move them into design space and they are all different sizes but when I go to make it and see the size on the preview mat the biggest one is sized at 6 in by 4.5 width. Am I suppose to rezise them?

    1. If you use the SVG files you do not have to resize, if you uploaded the png file they will change sizes upon import. the biggest should be a full 8.5×11 paper size.

  12. I’m so excited to make these for my daughters TACO ‘BOUT TWINS! baby shower! Thank you for sharing your gifts!

  13. Hello thank you for the free svg files. I’m looking forward to making some beautiful flowers for my bedroom. I downloaded the scarlet and reign templates. My question is do you have a video that shows how to make them or instructions on how many of each petal is needed?

    1. Hello, thanks for visiting my site! I have it listed on this post of which and how many petals for each flower size, under Large flower, Medium Flower and Small flower. It will work the same for the scarlet and reign flowers as well. And her is a video of how I assemble. https://youtu.be/pADrKCRL-tU
      Hope you enjoy!

  14. Thank you for the free Paper Flower, however, it downloaded as a PDF file. How do I download to a SVG file

  15. These never downloaded for me, which is probably for the best. I was gifted a cricut at Christmas, and this is just a sign that I shouldn’t be spending my time on this when the start of school is just days away. They look great on your site.
