Declutter for a Fresh Start

The first thing to do when organizing your craft room is to declutter and clean out your space.  Drag out those boxes and bins and get rid of any old supplies, scraps and material you don’t use.  There’s nothing better than starting with a blank canvas for your craft storage.

I also recommend rearranging your work space furniture to maximize your space. I literally spent an entire day shifting my furniture back and forth until I had a functional layout!

Recommend craft room furniture for storage are rolling carts, bookcases, cube organizer, work desk, drawer organizer and floating shelves.

Vinyl Storage Hack

Put your Cricut vinyl rolls on display!  This is a colorful way to brighten up your craft space.  The cheapest way to do it is with 3 simple items from Dollar Tree.  Grab yourself some Clear Shower Curtain Rings, Nylon Cable Ties and Clear Adhesive Wall Hooks to create a simple way of storing vinyl.

I used five 12pks of shower curtain rings, one 60pk of cable ties and two 2pks of wall hooks.  I was able to make two vinyl hangers that holds 15 rolls each! That’s 30 rolls at my convenience, you will need to make two 15 ring strands for each vinyl holder.

You start off with snap closing all the curtain rings and zip tying 15 rings together.  Make 2 strands of 15 rings, this will support each side of the vinyl roll.  Use Wall Hooks to hang them 6 inches apart from each other.  Then just slip in your vinyl rolls through the rings and your done!

This Dollar Tree vinyl hack seriously has to be the best by far! I was able to hang 30 vinyl rolls for under $9, great for your Cricut craft room.

I had blank space in between my hanging vinyl rolls, to create a colorful stripe pattern.  I laid out the entire roll of vinyl on my work desk and cut out 4 inch wide strips of each color using a exacto knife, using a long straight edge. I started on the left side of my wall and placed the first strip, then I lined up the next color after that.  I cover 48in x 32in for just $7.50.

Give your pegboards a colorful makeover with some spray paint.  I grabbed another set of pegboards to go on my adjacent wall, but it was lacking color, so spray paint to the rescue! Another great idea for a colorful craft room and keep things color-coded.

Utilize Vertical Space

Whether or not your craft room is small or not, it’s always a good idea to utilize your vertical space!  Let your storage go up to your ceiling.  Use floating shelves to store supplies when not in use.  Hang your Cricut mats and other craft supplies with removable wall hooks.

Use Shelving Units and Storage Containers

Lastly, you can organize all your knick knacks, pens, paint brushes, washi tape, paper clips, markers, pencils and glue sticks with small storage containers.  You can find many containers at Dollar Tree as well!  Their back-to-school collection has a lot of colorful mini storage bins, rectangle storage case,  great for organizing small supplies.  You can stay organized with adding labels to your storage containers, drawers and bins!

Use a shelving unit, drawer storage cabinet or standing bookcase to hold all your storage containers and bins.  This makes them easier to access than hiding them in bins and cabinets.

  1. I am making the vinyl wall hanging. What type of wall hooks did you use? I can’t see them in the picture. It seems the hook needs something else to hook onto the curtain rings to go the right direction.

    1. Hello, I’m using the large adhesive wall hooks it’s a 2pk, they are crystal clear. You can see the 3pk image how I hung my mats. They are the same brand. I just used another zip tie to hang it on the hook from the top curtain ring. Make sure your wall is smooth and clean for it to stick, if you remove it to move it, it won’t hold up. So make sure you position it correct the first time. Also I recommend let it adhere for 30 mins before hanging anything on it. And not make it too heavy with vinyl, one roll each ring.

  2. Using Dollar Tree vinyl to make that eye-catching “rainbow” is such a great idea! When I just saw it in the picture, I imagined the pain and expense of paint. Your solution was much better!
