Welcome to this fun and spooky Halloween crafting tutorial! In today’s project, I’ll show you how to make a bat bow using two different methods. Bat Bow Video Tutorial
Bat Bow Supplies for Cricut
- Cricut Machine
- Faux leather (in black and accent color)
- Alligator Hair clips
- Hot glue gun and glue sticks
- Standard Grip Mat or Fabric Grip Mat
- Painter’s tape (optional)
- Bat bow template (download below)
Bat Bow Supplies for Printable
- Printer
- White Cardstock
- Scissors
- White colored pencil or pen
Make with PDF Printable
For users without a Cricut machine. You can make these spooky bat bows using the printable PDF file.
- Download and Print the Template: Download the bat bow PDF template from the provided site and print it on cardstock.
- Trace the Template: Flip the faux leather upside down, place the printed template on top, and trace the outline using a pen or white pencil.
- Cut the Shapes: Use sharp scissors to cut out the traced shapes from the faux leather.
- Assemble the Bow: Pinch the center of the bat shape, apply hot glue to hold the folds, and wrap a strap around the center to secure it.
- Attach the Hair Clip: Finally, glue a hair clip to the back of the bow, and itโs ready to wear!

Design Space Setup
Upload the SVG file to Cricut Design Space, the 4in and 4.5in bows are grouped in the same SVG file. Make sure the dimensions are set correctly, 6.127×7.11 inches.
For the 5in bat bow SVG, it will be in a separate folder, once uploaded to Design Space make sure it’s sized to 5 inches wide. Next, you can ungroup the SVG file and change any colors as needed.
Take your faux leather (black for the bat shape, and a contrasting color for accents), place the faux leather shiny side down on the cutting mat. Use painterโs tape secure the material. Set the Cricut machine to “Faux Leather, Paper Thin” under the fabric settings, and insert the fine point blade.
Assembling the Bat Hair Bows
For the 4-Inch Bow:
- Take the two tabs of the small bat shape and glue them together using your hot glue gun.
- Attach the center strap to the back and pinch the front of the bow to form a crease.
- Wrap the strap tightly around the bow and glue it in place.
- Attach the bow to the center of the bat wings with more hot glue.
- Finally, glue the hair clip to the back of the bat wings. Be mindful of the orientation of the clip, depending on how you want the bow to be worn.
For the 4.5-Inch Bow:
- Pinch the bottom ribbon section in the center and glue it together at the back.
- Apply hot glue to secure the pinched area and hold it until the glue sets.
- Repeat the same steps to assemble the bow: wrap the center strap tightly, secure it with glue, and pinch the bow to create the crease.
- Attach the hair clip to the back, ensuring it is placed correctly based on how you want the bow to be worn, such as for a ponytail.
For the 5 inch Bow
- Pinch the bat shape in the center, creating a โWโ fold, and apply hot glue to the back to hold the folds together.
- Wrap the center strap tightly and glue it into place.
- Add your hair clip to the back, making sure itโs secure.
For an extra Halloween flair, feel free to personalize your bat bow by adding accents like glitter or Halloween-themed embellishments!
